Nov 1 - 7 Totals

Got the totals back up in spite of running with a chest cold all week. Starting to get a little sick of running at Clement Park...but it has been very convenient since it's by the gym which I've been hitting pretty regularly. One thing that starting to eat at me some is the lack of trails and hills. The October snow has jacked things up a bit but the last week has been unseasonably warm so there's been some decent melting. I hope next week to get back to doing some hill work...

11/07/2009 - Clement Park - 7.1mi

Ended up not climbing anything yesterday...couldn't drag my butt out of bed. Although I was tempted to get a run in later in the day, decided to stick with the day off and rest the lungs.

Today was another run in Clement Park....a very easy 7.1 miles.

11/05/2009 - Clement Park - 8.6mi

Hit Clement Park with the intent of doing an easy run but I ended up pushing it a bit and went 8.6 miles in 1:04:29....a 7:30/mi pace. The mile splits were actually semi-consistent for me....7:49 (call this a warm up), 7:33, 7:20, 7:27, 7:31, 7:29, 7:36, 7:16, then 7:41 pace for the .6mi at the end (call this a cool down). Tried pushing that last mile (7:16) a bit but I really didn't have any gas to do anything impressive.....obviously.

It was another beautiful day out....sunny and in the 70's. Love this Colorado weather...

In spite of running while trying to recover from a cold, I've managed to hit 50 miles for the week already. Could be flirting with 70 if I wanted, but I've decided to take tomorrow off...and 'off' meaning I'm heading into the backcountry to climb a mountain or two....

11/04/2009 - Waterton Canyon - 12.3mi

Today was a hard run in Waterton canyon, 12.3miles. Went after it with a pretty hard effort, but the body was still feeling a little weak today and just didn't have the speed. Along with some minor wheezing, hacking throughout....between mile ~3.5 & 4.5 (and ~9.5 & ~10.5) it was pretty boggy so that slowed me down a little too. Actually used that as an excuse to pull up a little coming and going. Ran in 1:30:07 for a 7:20/mi pace...

11/03/2009 - Clement Park - 7.1mi

Well, looks like I survived Sunday's long run (while sick) and this cold doesn't appear to be slipping into H1N1, pneumonia, or something. Energy level seems to be coming back but I do have a little bit of a cough now.

Five days ago I was whining about ~4ft of snow on the ground. Today it was sunny and mid 60's...freakin' beautiful day. Went for an easy run at Clement Park but upped it to more of a moderate pace as I was feeling pretty good thru the first ~5 miles. Started pushing even more for mile 6 but began wheezing and coughing a little more so I slowed the pace back down towards the end then took it easy thru my last mile. Ran 7.1mi in 55:12, a 7:47/mi pace.....

11/01/2009 - Platte River South Trail - 22mi

Guess I'll find out in a day or two how stupid it was doing this long run today. I'm still fighting a cold and once again I felt like crap when I first woke up, but after feeling a little better around lunchtime I decided that if I just took it easy enough I could pull out a long one. There's really no reason why I couldn't have (& should have) put this off a day or two and it certainly wasn't bright stressing the body like this while sick...yet I ran anyway and it was kinda ugly.

Because of snow closure and crowded parking at my normal S.Platte entry points...I was forced to start a little further north than usual (Reynolds Park). Things felt pretty easy the first few miles but the HR was a bit high (no surprise). I scaled the effort back a little and things continued to feel ok. Before this cold I had wanted my next long run to be 24miles but I decided 20-22 miles would be enough today. I was still feeling ok at mile 10 so I continued on to mile 11. As I was approaching my turn around point though, I quickly began feeling like I was running out of gas....not good with an 11 mile return trip ahead of me. As I made my way back the per mile pace began a pretty quick decline and started creeping into the high 9's, then into the 10's and even started to flirt with 11's....I was defintely hurting. Somewhere in mile 18 I decided I would fight to get to 20miles then just walk the last two. For whatever reason though I didn't stop and continued my jog/shuffle thru miles 21 & 22 back to Reynolds Park. My time was 3:28:54...21 minutes slower than 10 days ago...

Have to laugh a little. Yesterday I was bragging a bit about my fast overall pace for last week...with todays run coming in at 9:30/mile, certainly not getting off to a good start this week...

Oct 25-31 Totals

Was hoping the totals would be a bit higher (as usual), but a big snowstorm on Wed & Thu (dumping almost 4ft) then a cold that finally caught up to me tripped things up some.

Although I've never really kept track of it here, on RunningAHEAD I have it set up so overall pace for the week is calculated. This past week the 32.5 miles I ran averaged a 7:30/mi pace. I'm pretty sure that is my fastest weekly pace.
